The inspiration for my daughter’s Shabby Chic bedroom makeover came from this headboard I bought at Goodwill for $25.00. I loved the antique look and Shabby Chic detail. Although it was full size, I didn’t want the bed to take up too much space in her room. I had an idea to make it into a daybed style and build a frame. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I changed colors so painting over first coat of paint.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Kate and I chose a Matilda Jane bedding set. You can see the print above. I loved the aqua background with the pink flowers and green leaves. I also found a set of aqua bedside tables on Facebook Marketplace, that matched the darker aqua in the bedding. I originally thought I wanted to match her bed to the color of the side tables, and paint the walls pink. But after painting the headboard aqua, I was not happy with how it was coming together. I also knew once I painted her walls pink, all the pink accessories I’d in-visioned for her room, would be pink overload! You can never have too much pink, until you do!! I then matched the lighter pink in the sham, and decided on a SW color called Bella, in a chalk paint finish, to paint her bed. If you saw my previous post on my daughter’s vanity makeover, it is the same color. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I love how this pink color has an antique look, and it changes colors in different lighting. I decided to leave the detail of the headboard aqua for contrast. I later distressed it more to soften the look, which is explained in another paragraph. The headboard is looking so good!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The above picture is the finished box bed that we attached to the headboard as in the picture below. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We screwed the frame to the back of the headboard, then got legs that would be used for making a footstool from Lowes. We screwed them under the bed, by drilling a hole in the 2X2 frame, then inserted a steel wood insert nut. We secured the legs more tightly after picture was taken, tightening it up and using a strong bond wood glue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before color of room was called Latte. It was a guest room before becoming her room. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

My daughter’s room was previously a guest room, and was painted a beige color called Latte. I did love the color because it was a nice neutral that went with everything. As I mentioned, I had originally planned to paint the room pink, and the bed aqua to match her bed side tables. But I found this aqua blue color with hints of green that matched her bedding. In the picture above by the door, is the first sample of the aqua color. The name is SW Breaktime. It also changes in different lighting from aqua to a light grey green, or griege!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I love how the aqua detail turned out after the distressing was complete. It was a little too bold from the original aqua paint, so I added a white wash finish overlay, then slightly sanded it down. This really softened the color, and the contrast with the pink backboard is beautiful. Both colors matched the bedding so perfectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vintage light was another inspiration for her Shabby Chic room and the color selections.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

This vintage tea light was another inspiration for her Shabby Chic room, and for the selection of the bedding, wall and furniture colors. I found it at an antique store while visiting family in Alabama. It has the aqua and light pink detail which helped me pick the color scheme for the room! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I took these pictures, I was taking for personal use, not a blog, so this picture is not the best quality. But, I love process photos. This was a picture I’d taken while we were still painting, to see how the colors were working together in different lighting, as it was getting darker outside. Good paint colors change throughout the day, but it is important to compare the changes to your inspiration pieces. You want to make sure the color is staying in line with your original vision, in all lighting hues throughout the day!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was something so special about these pictures when I found them at an antique store. My daughter has taken dance most her life. The imagery of a little girl in the first picture, with one shoe on, and her accessories scattered about, contrasted with the second image. A somewhat teenaged ballerina, doing her own hair with both shoes on, and everything in it’s place. The same ballerina, just growing as they do before our eyes. It was not lost on me, there is a different pup in both photos. Sniff. These distressed frames and matted ballerina prints were perfect for her Shabby Chic room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Again, if you’ve not read my previous post on the blog- Shabby Chic Vanity makeover- go back and read it to see how we transformed a dingy vintage vanity, to a dreamy pink color with clear glass knobs. (Affiliate link for knobs https:\/\/amzn.to\/3mPZ45u<\/a>). I liked the previous color, but it was in need of some repairs. It turned out so beautiful in pink with the glass knobs for this space. Above, is a real life photo of my little girl in her room. As you can see, we love pink accessories! That is why I changed the idea from originally painting the room pink, to this aqua color. I love the contrast, and it allowed the pink to really pop against this bright and cheery blue. We bought the pink lounge couch from Hobby Lobby, also the pink wall flowers. The princess dress canvas came from a thrift store. We just need one more stuffed animal or doll and this room will be complete. Haha!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We got her chandelier from Pottery Barn, and the bedside lamps are antiques salvaged from a thrift store. I had them rewired for safety at a lighting store. I got the antique lamps $25 for the set. The re-wiring cost about $35.00. I love the finished look of my daughter’s bedroom with this headboard makeover for inspiration!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
