Before and After Switch Plate Makeover

I wanted to “bedazzle” my daughters light plate cover in her room, after finding this metal vintage inspired switch plate, at a thrift store for around $5.00. I decided to “Shabby Chic” it to match a vintage mirror in her room.

This boring snoozer of a switch plate cover was not fitting for a princess room and was in need of a facelift. Here is how I made it over…!

I’d forgotten to take a before picture of the front of the switch plate until after I had started painting, but this bronze metal cover had a beautiful vintage inspired design that went perfect with her Shabby Chic room. I had some leftover paint from previous projects to give it a makeover.

A little late evening painting in my craft room soothes the soul. You can see some of the bronze in this picture on the original finish.

After painting the bronze switch plate white, I rubbed some of the paint off to distress it. Then, I added some gold accent paint on the raised parts of the cover, and rubbed the excess off with a cloth to give it more of a distressed antique look. I used some gold to match a vintage mirror in my daughter’s room that would hang over the light switch so they would compliment each other.

They complimented each other perfect and I love how it turned out! This cheap and easy $5.00 makeover certainly makes this wall in her room shine. Not bad for a $5 dollar thrift store find, and is now fitting for a princess room!
